The leading scorer in the Scottish First Division before he joined
Leeds, in his few appearances Derek Lilley didn't make the same
impression in England. He looks to be a well-built player who can hold
the ball up well, but never managed to produce the turn of pace needed
to really make it at the top level.
Lilley was a perennial sub, and did a reasonable job of holding the
ball up, but did not have much scoring success - his one goal for Leeds
being the winner in yet another comeback at Barnsley.
After a couple of loan spells with Hearts and Bury, he finally
moved on to Oxford United for £75,000 in 1999. He returned to
Scotland with Dundee United and his goals did much to help keep them
up in 2000-01. His latest club is Livingston, and he's been banging
them in in the SPL, and topped it all with a goal in the final of the
CIS Cup as Livi beat Hibs 2-0.
anon says: derek nice bloke went to school with him good player(all
the best sincky0
Rob Salvin says: I saw Lilley play a few times in the Reserves at
Leeds - an intelligent player but probably not physically big enough
to be an effective centre forward at Premiership level. He's now
moved on to Livingston and is top scorer this season
Garry Kerr says: I saw Derek Lilley play for livi! He is the top
scorer with 8 goals. He was at the signing on the sunday after the
dundee game and i met him there!
Hooch says: There's only one Derek Lilley. He scored at the CIS cup
final that we won 2-0
Phil says: he was popular at oxford, just a bit unlucky with the
goals!
mark young says: Derek Lilley is a great player
Ste says: Lilley was unlucky at Leeds, now were in a lesser league
we should bring him back to bang in the goals in the 1st division, he
was intelligent and had a cool name - GET LILLEY BACK AT LEEDS!!!
