Young Australian defender who started out as a centreback but is
being aimed at playing more of a left-back role due to lack of inches
(and the increased competition!). Did well for the reserves in 2000-01
continued in that vein the following season. Made a good start to a
loan spell at Rochdale but picked up an injury which forced his early
return. In summer 2003, he decided to take up an offer from AGF Aarhus
of Denmark in order to further his chances of first-team football.
"Hawk" says: Hi, I am from Australia and have met Shane and he is a
very nice guy to be around. I have watched him play soccer for his
school Westfields Sports High and also have watched him train with the
Sydney Academy and I can see Shane going a long way with this career.
Good Luck Shane and hope that you are enjoying life in Leeds and can't
wait to see you play for Australia some time. Can I please have your
email address so I can keep in touch????
Scott Tanner says: Saw him play a few fixtures back at Brownlow
Place. He's come along way since then. Keep up the good work Shane'y
boy ! Regards, The Tanner Family.
Mrs J Scotney says: I was Shane's Year 6 teacher.(in Primary
school) I have quite a few stories to tell....can't wait till he's
famous to let the media in on a few. What an Aussie Larrikin
BiGdAvE says: heard a lot about him, brilliant player.
JEAB says: hi!i'm Thai girl.i've met him when he come
here..Thailand(that's the first time i saw him&talked to him...but so
short!!i've searched about him but the website is only in Finnish!!how
do i understand!!well,i wanna see him play.. but i've sawhim when he
was training.that's it! i think he's very kind.cos he let me hug..how
nice he is?! anyway,i wanna be australian?!! take care,bye..LOVE U
SHANE..
Laura says: Oh my God...I just graduated from Westfields Sports
High. I had like the hugest crush on Shane in grade 7 and let me tell
you now that I wasn't alone! Ha ha...yeah he was very popular and a
great player on the field. He definately deserves to be where he is
now. I just hope that he comes back to play for the Socceroos some
day. England should stop takin' our Aussie talent...
Max Harlow says: Why has Shane been forgotten about? All this talk
of us having only one left-back at the start of the season (Hartey) -
Rubbish! We had Shane too (and Matteo, and Wilcox has played there in
the reserves). But they keep bringing in left-siders - Nick Barmby,
Teddy Lucic, and now Raul Bravo. Why don't we give Shane a try? And
he can play in the centre of defence too, so he'd be useful back-up in
the next few weeks (when we're probably only gonna have Dubes &
Kilgallon available). I reckon they just can't be bothered trying to
squeeze 16 letters and a hyphen onto his shirt! If so, they're too
lazy - Man City managed to get Wright-Phillips on, and that's only 2
letters shorter. Anyway, good luck to him, I'm sure he's a great
player (wish I could actually find out though), I know they liked him
at Rochdale. And Good Luck to all our young lads - never mind
8-figure sums on Ferdinand & Co., invest in the future!
donna says: Shane's well fit! whoevea sed we dont have gd lookin
