Leeds-born winger that slipped through the net to join Huddersfield
after representing Leeds Schools. O'Grady had a very successful time
at Leeds Road, winning his first England cap against Northern Ireland
in 1962: he scored two goals but had to wait six years before finally
getting his second (and last) cap against France (he scored in that
game as well). He also picked up 3 U-23 caps and played in a Football
League representative side. In his 5 years at Leeds, he found himself
in and out of the team - partly due to inconsistent form and partly
due to injuries - and it was only really the 1968-69 season that he
found himself a regular place. Even then, the emergence of Eddie Gray
on the left and Peter Lorimer on the right looked to be limiting his
prospects for the future. A move away from Elland Road to Wolves,
Birmingham and Rotherham saw his injury problems follow him and he
retired from the game in 1974.
John Randall says: Played for Town,as you show above. In early 1965
(I could have sworn it was '66!) he scored a brilliant goal, coming in
from the left and stiking a right foot drive into the roof of the net
fromoutside the penalty area.Great, unrealised potential. Happy
days. Hope he is hale & hearty. Great web-site
