Young player who came through the youth team but was mostly used as
midfield cover. Never quite had the vision or ability to make it at
the top level, but did pretty well in the lower divisions with York
and Southend. He headed back up north towards the end of 2000 and has
been a regular for Hartlepool since, scoring a few goals and
organising the team well in midfield. He was voted into the Division 3
PFA Team of the Year in 2002-03 as Hartlepool won promotion in
style.
Ste says: Showed signs of being a top talent - should have been
given a fair crack of the whip - if only for his namesake - what a
name!! Not the Mark bit!!
