Jabba's Comments

A Leeds lad through and through, Noel Whelan came through the junior ranks and got a good run in the side from 1993 to 1994. A lanky striker, he showed good pace and an eye for goal, but his application was a little bit suspect. With Tony Yeboah and Brian Deane Wilko's first choices when they were available, Whelan was generally on the bench from then on. Gordon Strachan took him down to Coventry where he faded after initially impressing, before moving to link up with Deane again at Boro.

Despite a series of injuries last season, he still manaaged seven goals including a memorable one against Man U in the Cup at the Riverside, silencing the visiting fans who had spent half the game taunting the "Leeds reject". When Steve McLaren picked up Malcolm Christie at the Great Derby Short-of-Cash Sale, Whelan moved further down the pecking order and had a brief spell on loan at Palace. With little prospect of Premier League football in 2003-04 he agreed to move on and took a one-year deal at Millwall.

Anon says: why is his application suspect? what's the matter with him? What can be done to help him? is it worth the effort?

ames says: noel is wonderfull a friendlier man u could never meet

Princess says: I liked him too. Naughty, but very nice. Yes, wonderful, if a little weird.

Amy says: plenty of stories but to keep loyalty i cannot tell any of them.

Damien O'Faolain says: I'm a relation of Noel and after watching England last night I think had Noel been lucky and avoided injury in his earlier years then he could of enjoyed similar success as Wayne Rooney is currently experiencing.

deano says: we bought him to millwall and he has bust ups with his own team mates on the pitch. knockin in the goals though.

Carl says: If/when we go down, we should bring Noel Whelan back to the club. He would cost nothing, and loves the club.

grimble says: i'd like to see him back at the club is'nt he on trail at the club as we speak/type. never should have been allowed to leave in the first place for that fat tosser brolin

dunnzer says: 01/08/04 noel is training with aberdeen and played in a friendly in Holland at the weekend. the club is negotiating with his agent over a deal. noel has actually already played for aberdeen as a guest at Brian Irvine's testimonial a number of years back. Dons fans are hoping he'll sign and as a massive fan of the great leeds team of the 70s (like there is only 1 willie miller there only ever will be 1 billy bremner) i hope a good leeds lad makes his debut against the huns on saturday.

Amie says: Noel is a Great Bloke. I love him 2 bits, i would really love for him to come back to Coventry although i know it will never happen. I know Noel would love to go back to Leeds as like Carl says he loves the club!!! hope his career at Aberdeen goes well he deserves it!! (17/10/04/)

Ste says: Poor noel - shouldve been a legend - he was shown the door when we signed Brolin - was nice of Tommy to pass on his diet to Whelan though - he looks a bit tubby these days

Brian69 says: Absolutley Quality player for us here at CCFC, in his 1st couple of seasons the goals were flying in and they were Blinding Goals!! Apparently had some fall ous with Dion Dublin, and i remember a girl in my year at school was obsessed with him. Used to call herself Mrs Whelan

Alan Pirie says: Noel currently playing for Aberdeen, doing really well, fast becoming a hero with the fans!
